Free ServSafe® Practice Test — One Full Run, Free Account

One complete 90-question practice exam, a real two-hour clock, scored out of 80 against the 70% pass mark, with a breakdown by chapter and the ten unscored pilot questions revealed at the end. Free account, no card. Two hours is the limit ServSafe publishes for the print, in-person proctored session; no duration is published for the online-proctored exam.

Free is not the interesting part. Almost everything ranking for this search is free. What matters is what the free thing does — and most free ServSafe practice tests run short, run untimed, and score you against a pass mark copied from a document the administrator stopped maintaining. Some of them are not even the same exam: a fair number of the free "ServSafe practice tests" on this search are 40-question food handler tests Food Handler practice test.

The score appears the moment you submit. The explanations are on the same screen: read why every answer is right, close the tab and never come back. That is a complete use of this page, and it costs nothing. We charge for more practice, not for understanding your mistakes — a second run, the chapter drills, the edition-change questions, the temperature card.

Your result splits across the ten chapters of the official Manager book. No percentage is attached to them, because ServSafe publishes no exam blueprint, no domain list and no weighting — while the accreditation standard this exam is certified under says examination specifications "shall be publicly available." So when a study site tells you one topic is over half the exam, that figure did not come from the administrator. What we can show you is where your own wrong answers clustered. Candidates who write about this exam afterward talk about times and temperatures more than anything else — that is what they report, not a published weighting. If you have one evening, start there every temperature and time on the exam.

The 90/80 split is the exam, not a rounding error

ServSafe states it plainly: there are 90 questions on the exam, but only 80 are scored, because ten are unscored pilot questions. They are mixed in, and you are never told which. Our run does the same — 90 on screen, 80 scored — then shows you the ten that did not count, after you submit. The real exam will never do that. It is the one thing a simulator can do that the real test cannot.

Two smaller rules come with it, both the exam's own. Blanks score as wrong and there is no penalty for guessing, so our run warns you about unanswered questions before it takes your score. Navigation — skip, flag, go back — is published nowhere for either delivery mode, so we allow all three and say so rather than invent a restriction.

We pass you at 56. Most free tests pass you at 60.

ServSafe's live FAQ: a passing score is 70% or higher, obtained by answering at least 56 out of 80 questions correctly. Most free material in this category publishes 75%, which means 60 of 80. That number comes from a ©2020 examinee handbook that is still downloadable and still says 75 percent.

The arithmetic settles it. 56 of 80 is exactly 70.0%. 75% of 90 is 67.5 questions, which is not a whole number and does not fit anything. We re-checked both sources on 11 September 2026, we score at 70%, and we keep the conflict on our own alarm list rather than quietly pick a side the whole 70% versus 75% case, with the sources. Practicing against the wrong mark is not harmless. Sixty correct feels like a comfortable margin; 56 is where the line sits.

    Where our questions come from

We wrote 203 original questions against the 2022 FDA Food Code — the edition ServSafe's current Manager material is aligned to — and every numeric answer is machine-checked against the text of the section it cites. Put cooling at 135°F to 70°F in two hours and the build opens section 3-501.14(A)(1) to confirm the number is in that paragraph, or the question does not ship. Every explanation names its section, so you can check us against the FDA Food Code. What nobody honest has is real exam questions. Those are copyright-protected and confidential.

    What is not free

One run is one run. The bank holds 203 questions and builds two complete 90-question forms with 23 to spare, so a second run is different questions, not the same set reshuffled.

Two Runs — $19. One-time. A second full 90-question timed form — different questions, not the first one reshuffled — with the same explanations and the same honest scoring. 90 days of access.

Full Prep — $34. One-time. Unlimited runs from the whole bank, all ten chapter drill sets, the edition-change questions built on values that changed between Food Code editions, the printable temperature card. One year of access.

    Neither auto-renews. Both carry a 30-day unconditional money-back window.

For scale: the exam is $38.99 with an access code or $99 online-proctored, the course $125, or $152.95 to $188.99 bundled. Fail and you buy the attempt again — no retake discount is published — and you wait. Twice inside 30 days, then 60 days before a third, four a year at most. If your county or your employer set a date, the wait costs more than the fee what your state and county require.

    FAQ

What do you get for free?

One full 90-question timed run on a two-hour clock, and your result the moment you submit it: raw score out of 80, percentage, pass band at 56, per-chapter breakdown, and which ten questions were unscored pilot items. That needs a free account — email or Google — and no card. The question-by-question review — every answer with its Food Code section — is also free, on the same account. What costs money is a second run, the ten chapter drill sets, the edition-change questions, the temperature card.

Are these the real ServSafe exam questions?

Every question here is written from the 2022 FDA Food Code — the same source the exam is built on — with the section cited under every answer, so you can go check the rule yourself. That is the stronger position, and it is the honest one: the real items are copyright-protected and confidential, nobody legitimate has them, and a site offering you "real" or "leaked" questions is telling you what it did to get them. Ours are original, 203 of them across 95 cited sections, and every numeric answer is checked against that section's own text before it enters the bank.

What is a passing score on the ServSafe Manager exam?

70% — at least 56 of the 80 scored questions correct. That is the administrator's own published figure, and 56 out of 80 is exactly 70%. Our runs are scored the way the real exam is scored — 90 presented, 80 counted, pass at 56 — so the number you finish with here means the same thing as the number you finish with there: raw score out of 80, percentage, and PASS or NOT YET against the 70% band.

What's the difference between ServSafe Manager and ServSafe Food Handler?

    They're different products.

Manager is a certification: 90 questions, proctored, 70% to pass, valid 5 years, $38.99–$108.99 — and it's the accredited one that answers the certified-food-protection-manager requirement your inspector asks about.

Food Handler is a Certificate of Achievement: 40 questions, not proctored, 75% to pass, valid 3 years, $15.00. ServSafe's own product materials say Manager is "accepted in all 50 states" and Food Handler in 48 — that is the administrator's claim, not your regulator's, so check the rule that actually applies to you. Watch out too: some free sites label 40-question handler tests as "ServSafe practice tests." Food Handler practice test

Can I retake the free run? The free run is one full form. A second timed form is the $19 tier; unlimited runs from the whole bank is $34. Both one-time, both refundable for 30 days ServSafe Manager practice test.

What do I do after the run? The score screen tells you which chapters cost you points. Work those, then do the full-length run again cold.
